| I'll think you'll find he congratulated India before anything else.
And as the captain of the side whose requests are continually ignored, he has the right to use a public event to air his grievance.
Continually now, pitches are produced in the WI that either result in flat, runs laden games or end up being favourable to the visitors.
Is he supposed to be quiet about this?
What about being told you are a selector way after you can actually do any selecting and the series is almost over?
As captain and senior player he should be stepping up and talking for the players.
IF the players follow his lead and get a bit more concerned with what is going around them, then maybe things will get better.
As for runs scoring, Lara is 37.
His time in the sun is soon over. He is the elder statesman of test cricket.
To compare him to Ponting and Dravid, in their prime of their careers, is silly.
Go and check Lara's batting career as captain and you will see it is superior to his non-captaincy days.
In fact, his 2nd stint as captain was extremely prolific.
He's scored more runs than anybody else in Test matches and also lost more Test matches than anybody else.
Yet, people still believe it is up to Lara to score the runs to lead WI to victory all the time.
If he scores 0 and they don't win, it is his fault.
If he scores 200 and they don't win, it is his fault.
If he scores 400 and they don't win, it is his fault.
For the first 3 games against India, he captained them to parity.
Under the previous captain, WI would have capitulated way before that.
Ponting and Dravid and Vaughan could be world superstar captains but their captaincy would be nothing without the likes of Kumble, Harbhajan, Sehwag, Laxman, Hayden, Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath, Flintoff, Harmison, Pietersen, Strauss, Trescothick.
Where is the WI equivalent?? |
