Appointing a domestic assistant coach makes lots of sense when appointing an overseas head coach, but the problem with most obvious candidates is association with past setups. Mushtaq is a very clean break as he's not even been in the frame in recent years: he's unqualified and inexperienced as a coach.... but at least he's not in any way tainted.

In a perfect world the assistant coach would perhaps be a rather better model of athleticism (a Pakistani Johnty Rhodes known for his work ethic, total commitment and excellence in the field) but the real attraction of Mushtaq must be his English domestic cricket experience: he's as versed as it is possible to be in the most professional cricketing setup on the planet and can take to the role full familiarity with the latest coaching techniques.
