I also think that there was a lack in confidence in players like Mahmood and Panesar from the captain which did not help. Flintoff didn't bowl Mahmood enough and Freddy over bowled Harmison, Hoggard and himself. He did not have enough faith in Panesar in Melbourne giving him a very defensive field with a deep long off and deep long on, with no fieldsman around the bat. Is nothing against Flintoff he is a good player and lead from the front but he will never be anywhere near the brains or knowledge of the game that Vaughan possesses.
