Australian spinner Brad Hogg today announced his retirement from international cricket.
The 37-year-old played seven tests for Australia, including three this summer against India.
But he was far more successful in the one-day arena, where he has played 121 one-day
internationals, taking 154 wickets.
Hogg will conclude his international career after the current tri-series against India and Sri
Lanka but has left open the option of playing domestically for Western Australia again next
season.
Hogg said he had considered ending his career after Australia's World Cup triumph in the
Caribbean last year, but felt that Shane Warne's retirement gave him a chance to get back
in the test side following a long absence.
"My career started against India and I thought if I can play test cricket against India that
would be fantastic," Hogg said.
"I wanted to fight to get back in there and I did it and I achieved what I wanted to achieve."
Hogg said another factor in his decision was that his wife was due to give birth in May.
Yet another Australian player has retired, whose his successor? How many more experienced
players can the side lose or is there just that much talent in the country that they'll stay on top?
