Watch more closely: the wicket-keeper takes the ball but doesn't break the stumps. He then effects a run out the other end.

My guess: with both batsmen stranded (or with the better batsman looking like being run out) the lesser batsman decided to sacrifice himself by running towards the wicket-keeper... who responded by ensuring the better batsman was out.
