| I'm not arguing whether he is not good enough to be in an all-time XI. He is clearly the leading contender for the one specialist WK position (arguably the only position that must be filled). My issue is that the odds were stacked in his favour for selection. As a player who probably must be in the XI, he was chosen as the opening batsman (a role I think he is far from the best of all-time) simply because he would be most people's WK.
If the WK role was not a specialist position, I seriously doubt whether he would feature here. He certainly is a worse opening player than Hayden for example. |
