I think the selectors have to take a lot of the blame for that- in the training squad, picking non-performers Pollard and Roach ahead of Nash and Miller. Recently, continously overlooking Wavell Hinds in favour of Ganga or Devon Smith, two players with inferior records. Picking Fidel Edwards and Daren Powell contionously over Collins and Collymore. Only going in with three specialist quicks and no spinner (how old was Ramnarine when he was axed?). It's not a new problem, either. Yesterday I posed the question of what happened to Marlon Samuels' older brother, Robert? He only played 6 Tests, scoring a century and averaging 37. Not mind-boggling figures, but far better than the 24-averages of Adrian Griffith and Stuart Williams (both of whom played more than 10 Tests). And I also found out that in his brief 12-innings-long opening partnership with Sherwin Campbell, they averaged 42 together (greenidge and Haynes averaged 47). And he was ditched for no logical reason that I can see when he was only as old as Michael Clarke is now.

That's what's wrong with West Indian cricket- good performances aren't rewarded, and the better performers are shunted aside when they don't fit the selectors' idea of what a West Indian team should be like.
