I'm not quite sure when you should make the decision, John, but my instinct says that you should bat out your overs for whatever you can get. The Duckworth-Lewis formula uses the concept of "resources", which are basically batsmen and overs. If the batsmen aren't all that special, then surely you should be aiming to get the most out of the other resource? Even at three an over, Bangladesh "threw away" 45 runs today by shortening their innings. Probably not enough to make a difference in the end in terms of this match result, but it could sometimes make the difference between a match and no contest, surely?
