Vics clinch rare win in Perth

By Ken Piesse
Victoria clinched a rare outright win against the Western Warriors in Perth by four wickets just as rain engulfed the WACA Ground. Set 184 runs to win, the Vics recovered after losing several early wickets, finishing at 6-184, captain Cameron White making 48 not out and Jon Moss 25.
Resuming at 4-86, the Vics lost both not out batsmen, David Hussey (4) who was out second ball of the day to Brad Williams and Nick Jewell (41) who was controversially lbw to Brett Dorey.

But White
(pictured left) and man-of-the-match Moss combined to blunt the Warriors, adding 67 for the seventh wicket, both playing sensibly on a fourth day wicket still good for batting. Both had their slices of luck, however, Mathew Inness dropping one caught and bowled chance which was crucial in the fortunes.

The two Victorians scored at three an over, Moss
(left) hitting the winning runs from the bowling of ex-teammate Inness late in the first session, to the joy of all his teammates.
"It was a great win for us, an ideal start," said coach Greg Shipperd. "We had some very fine performers, but at some stage almost everyone chipped in which is important as we look to go forward this summer."
For the Warriors, improved seamer Dorey took three for 36.
Asked afterwards how he felt, White said: "We have been coming here for a long time and have won only two or three times in the last 15 years. It's a great feeling. Now we're looking forward to Sunday and hoping to be just as competitive."
