An interesting little piece of trivia

When Justin Langer brought up his century, there was a first in Test cricket. It was the first time ever, in a Test match, that in one line-up, three batsman had scored 20 or more Test centuries.

Hayden, Langer, and Ponting have all now scored 20 Test centuries. What a daunting start for any bowling side!

India coming close to that milestone too, some what ;-)
Tendulkar 38 100s, Dravid 17 100s, Ganguly 11 100s

And untill very recently SA too boasted of a team who were some what close to achieving that milestone:
Kirsten 21 100s, Kallis 16 100s, Gibbs 13 100s

More Trivia

More interesting trivia.
Matthew Hayden has today scored 1000 Test runs in a calendar year for the FOURTH time!

A bit meaningless in some ways, considering the number of Test matches played today in comparison with earlier times, but still a notable achievement, particularly for an opening batsman.

Our game has a never ending stream of statistics, don't you just love it?

Another interesting piece of trivia...Hayden now becomes the 4th batsman to score 1,000 runs in a calendar year FOUR times... the others being Gavaskar, Tendulkar and Lara.

Allan Border is next, having passed 1,000 runs three times in his long career.

The other guy apart from Hayden and Langer who recently reached 1,000 in 2004 is Sehwag. Before him, Jayasuriya and Sangakara for SL had reached that landmark v Pakistan.

Others who have scored over 1,000 runs in the current year include Lara, Gayle, Sarwan and Martyn (so nine players in all have scored >1,000 in the current year alone). Kallis after his ton today is nearing the 1,000 runs mark for 2004 too.

No Pakistani has even scored over 455 in the current year, though they have also played the fewest number of Tests I think.

The highest runs in a calendar year record though is quite safe. Viv Richards scored 1,710 runs in 1976, a staggering feat. His career avg, if you take out that one calendar year, falls to an almost paltry 46!

Just a bit of trivia to add to that, Hayden is the only one two clock up those 1000 runs in four consecutive years.
