Pace bowling

Glen Mcgrath , jason gillespie and bret lee should be aussies best bowling attack for the next 5 years

There is no place for Underdogs like kasprovicz in the team .

Welcome to the board DarkKnight :-)

I don't think McGrath will be a world force in five or even three years time, what do you think?

Thanks DarkKnight... but I cannot see him being there in 5 years, I don't even think Warnie or Gillespie will be here in five years.

If they do, they will seriously hamper Australia. Ambrose and Walsh may have been great players, but they hung around way to long IMO, hampering the opportunities for the next generation. the result was the Next generation never got close to achiveimg what they did.

2006 is the next Ashes series in Oz, I expect to see a few retirements then (some may be forced)

I'd agree, I think we'll see quite a few retirements next summer, not just in Aus, but in other parts of the world too, I just have this strange feeling.

First of all Kasp is far better than Lee at the momment. Compare the stats if you dont belive me. Also while you're threre take a look at who both of them get out. Lee basicly mops up the tail enders and perhaps a few Lower Order batsmen unless he is on song at which time he could take out any batsmen in the world.

Thats not to say that I dont like Lee. He's a good bowler but Kaspa is no underdog. He's played 11 tests in a row now and averages a tad over 25 at a good economy rate. On top of that he is a patnership braker and something different.

McGrath wont last 5 years. He'll retire perhaps in the 2006-2007 series. He may well still be effective but I'd be surprised if he was bowling pace at 39 years of age...

Gillespie will probebly retire at the same time. He's younger but has had a lot of injuries and his action is far more strenuous. Can't see him playing beyond 33-34 years of age.

I'd agree that McGrath, Gillespie and Warne are all likely to go in the next few years... possibly forced out by injury (or the increasing effort of staying injury free).. or perhaps because something like the 2007 Ashes against a rejuvinated England (we can live in hope) provides a sensible climax to a career... but also because there will almost certainly be huge competition for their places before long - whether it's a new, more mature Lee, a massively improved Tait or Bracken or someone most of us haven't really heard of yet... there's sure to be someone demanding inclusion.

I don't agree on Ambrose and Walsh though: Ambrose was at / near his very best in the two years prior to his retirement (and a virtual certainty for a world XI).. and Walsh was without question at his peak in his final few years (though that's not such a great claim: he really didn't seem to be anything THAT special until his early 30s).

If any WI held others back it was Bishop.. but I don't think even that was true: there wasn't anyone too hold back. The implosion of WI cricket was there for all to see... and the crisis that followed the retirements was pretty much inevitable.

I think Mcgrath will be able to play atmost 2 to 3 years at highest level of game . I think he should make a way forward for young players .
