Those words being that Gillespie should be dropped for Tait, but that on his normal form he would have gotten into any team in the world...? How's Hoggy going?

Well, I agree withthat. Well, I know. I don't know much about Tait at all. Just what the commentators say and they say he's done well - 65 wickets in domestic cricket- it that right. that sounds pretty good.

You're right. Hoggard has had little or no impact as yet but he has, with Harmy, been England's leading wicket taker overthe last yr, so his time will come.

Seriously, don't you think Gillespie's had it? ps. That test match was fantastic.

Beny, i would'nt be too quick in selecting Tate. You must remember that he, like Lee and McGrath is an opening bowler. They can't all use the new ball and as a result, the bowling attack will be unbalanced (again). We should learn from our mistake and take a specialist change bowler. As Kasprowicz is the only one - he should be chosen. Just look how Jones went for England. With his reverse swing he was deadly with the old ball and gave England a deadly option that Australia lacked. Kasprowicz is a similar bowler in that sense and if he had played, the result of the game would have been vastly different.
The Aussie selectors have to stop being sucked in to this "pace is the way" mentality. The subtleties are the key. If Tait gets the nod, don't be surprised if he gets just as much hammer as Gillespie. Pace does'nt worry this England team - swing and movement off the wicket does. BIG mistake if they fail to select Kaspa again - trust me.

I'm not sure kaspro is the answer either, if you don't mind me intruding on private grief. ~The wickets are playing pretty fast so Tait could be the man. I jus think it would be nice to see a new face. And i hear he is v talented... I think Lee has really come into his own in this series. More so than in any other against England. And he looks like a nice lad too.
Having said that, I was most disapponted that the two injured Aussies - who were on the brink of not playing in that fantastic Test - saw your boys home in the end. Ponting was superb. But Lee and McGrath - what guts.

This series is the biggest thing in England atthe moment. The last time cricket had this kind of impact was in 1981. But this is bigger even than that. I reckon this is the biggest series since our lads gave your lads a lesson in Leg Theory.

Even if the wickets do play quickly, with a four man bowling team, you need variety to cover all eventualities. This is what the Aussies lacked last test - once the ball became old Lee and Gillespie (and McGrath for that matter) were easy meat and we had no-one who could move the ball off the seam and swing the ball irish. Made things very easy for the English batsman and that is why we had to rely on Warne. In the second test, England was 1-120 or something then Kasprowicz came in with the old ball and removed Trescothic (who was set on 90) and Bell in the space of 4 balls. He also knocked over the keeper (Jones) cheaply with the old ball as well and turned the momentum back to Australia.
T go into a test in England without someone who can seam and swing the old ball is folly. Hopefully the Aussie selectors have wised up or we can expect a repeat of the previous two tests.

Hoggard's not taken many wickets, but he hasn't been ******* around the park like Gillespie has.

Hoggard, I reckon, is too good to stay quiet through the whole series. He really is a fantastic bowler who has taken as many wickets as anyone for England in the last year. Around the same as Harmy, I believe.

I don't think he is going tp get conditions that really favour his bowling now.. but if he bowls a few like the one taht got Langer, he will pick up a big haul soon..

Last ten Tests:-

PHP Code:

Seamer, Kaspa has been almost as bad as Gillespie in the lead up matches. Tait is probebly the best exponent of reverse swing in the team and it's about time we gave this guy a go if we are expecting him to lead the Aussie bowling attack in 2 or 3 years (darn that's scary ).... And as Cliff said, it would be nice to see a new face.

I thought Kasprowicz was significantly better than Gillespie in the test he played and he gives Aus the option of bowling him later on in the innings wheras Gillespie is just utterly useless with the old ball (and with everything lately) I really can't understand why he isn't being picked. Definitely agree with Seamer on this one.

Currently England's pace attack is better balanced, an opening bowler, 2 aggressive pace and bounce bowlers and a reverse swinger to nip out a few with the old ball. The way Aus are lining out they are relying on McGrath to rip through the batting lineup with the new ball and if he doesn't then Ponting just throws the ball to Warne and bowls him forever whether it's working or not.

One way or another Gillespie is a dead man walking, Ponting was afraid to bowl him in the 2nd innings at Old Trafford and I am sure he won't play again in this test series.
