Cricket's only hope - to rise out of the Ashes

See Beny, even AB thinks next year's Ashes will be a good contest: "I know they've said it all before, but I really think the English are on the way back. They've learned from the way Australia does things, put together a useful team and I'm hopeful this time that they can provide us with some really hard-fought games. "A competitive Ashes series - traditionally, the showcase event on the calendar - could be just the thing to encourage the other countries."

Cricket needs England to make a contest out of it, otherwise it will be a dead bore in the future.

Well India didn't do too badly against Australia up until the recent series in India so this comes across as just a bit patronising with the Aussies claiming no one can give them a contest. Still, I do agree that England will provide decent competition on home ground.

India are a confidence driven team, which isn't necessarily good. They need motivation from elsewhere to constantly trouble the Aussies.

India does give the aussies a good run every time we play them what other countries have to learn is that a test is 5 days of pressure ........... take the foot off the gas for even 1 session against the aussies and kiss the test good bye

Pakistan have learnt that by now surely, lol.
Thats what makes the Aussies such a good side. You have to beat them in every passage of play.

There is a saying that when English cricket is strong, world cricket is strong. There is probably something in that. I hope the coming ashes series is tight but you have got to admit, England has not played anyone even close to Australias class since the last time they played them

I got a soft spot for the Poms....I've been waiting a while to see the Aussies towelled up...Although I am Australian, I'd like to see a team thrash us so we can be assured that international cricket is strong

ps...i dont think the Aussies will be able to handle the bounce and pace of Harmison and Fred....i reckon they ll towell hoggard up and give giles a belting....

Simon Jones remains the wildcard however....The day will come when he takes 6,7 or 8 to win a game for England
