The Ashes from an Englishmans point of view.

I think our best chance of regaining the ashes would be to have the series in April and May. As the tests start late on in July Australia are slight favourites for me although I cant see anyone troubling Strauss not even mcgrath or warne. Spuds personal bowling plan against the Aussie top 7 bats.

Hayden - inswing into pads pitched up.

Langer- Away swing pitched up.

Ponting - Short of a length outside off stump.

Martyn - Short stuff.

Clarke - line and length patients.

Katich - short stuff

Gilchrist - outside off stump seam movement both ways.

Pigoeon and Dizzy will tell you England should make strategies to get them out as well, they have both fifites as this level, and McGrath for once is very proud of his batting, whatever little he can do

Seriously though, I'm awating Beny's response to this, should be interesting.

The aussie tail battin and bowling

Yes I agree with you mcgraths batting has come on along way but Harmison will be too quick for him. Dizzy always causes problems for trescothick when he pitches up otside off stump on a length. He could make a good nightwatchman this summer. Warne and Lees batting could be the crucial factor of this summers series.

Lee? He didn't even get picked in the NSWales team, let alone Aus. Not sure if his place in the eleven is guaranteed for next summer. There is this view amogst the regular on this board that perhaps some one like Nathan Bracken (who has had a fantastic domestic season) might get a call up.

I'm sympathetic with Harmison to a certain extent, had some luck gone his way he could have had better returns in SA, but I think he will be the first one to admit that for the vast majority of his time in SA he just simply didn't bowl well enough, and if he does that against the Aussies, then you're right, the only batsmen of their line up he's going to come close to troubling will be fellows like McGrath and Dizzy.

Tail end runs

This series could be won on the runs scored by the last four batsmen on each team. Jones-Harmison Gilchrist - Mcgrath .

Oh my god! You really think it will go down that close, that's very interesting. Your views I'm sure shall fascinate the board regulars. Belated welcome to the WAT cricket forums though. As you've probably already found out this place is great

If it were that easy then Australia wouldent be dominating like they are.

Yer Australia are dominent but I believe teams around the world have got tactics wrong against the aussie top7 bats and need the bowlers need to have a rethink and start winning more personal duos with aus top 7 otherwise england and other teams will still fall short of aus standards.

England squad at full strength

yes it will be a very close ashes series this summer I really hope we are at full strength this summer so we can judge australia on beating our first team and not the 2nd and 3rd teams we put out in aus last time due to the squads personal problems and injuries.
