Redback,
It was not state bias that has denied Victorians places in the national side. It is the fact that no Victorian has done enough to get into the side. While Hodge may have presented a good case, there were better options. My question is: on what basis did you place the above posting and tell me who has been unfairly overlooked, and i will give you clear cut reasons why they missed out. Victoria need to produce more talent or wait for retirement of current players before they get into the national side. Merv being selected won't make a whit of difference in this case i am afraid.

Agree wholeheartedly Seamer. I do think that the Vic clearout before this Pura Cup might provide a few players with an opportunity to step up. It has done in South Australia and as much as I'm a fan of Lehmann and Blewett and see Elliot as a pick-up that might just give the Redbacks hope for a title, I was excited by the prospects of the crop of young players coming through and hope that this isn't a retrograde step for SA

Well my mind is now closed. Merv's antics in front of bay 13 were fun and all, but as a selector he does'nt have a clue. His overt support of Gillespie highlights his inability to acurately judge form and ability and he cannot be trusted to oversee thr direction of Aussie cricket for the future.
He should be given fifty bucks and sent back to the pub and be replaced by Fleming or something. Fleming is an ex-Victorian pace bowler, but unlike Merv, thinks beyond where his next beer is coming from.

Cameron White, David Hussey, Alan Wise and the extremely underated Mick Lewis

P.S with Matthew Hayden's current slump maybe Mathew Elliott should come under consideration for tests 4 & 5 as long as he is match fit.
