Symonds faces reprimand after big night out

It turns out that Symonds didn't have a "flu". Andrew Symonds had spent the night before the big game drinking and staying out late celebrating Shane Watson's 24th Birthday. Even worse still, it wasn't that the team had decided to suspend him, it appeared that in the warm-up he was in no fit state to carry out his duties. Surely this has to be the biggest sign of disrespect to another cricketing nation.

Quote:
Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds faces an extended suspension after breaking team rules for drinking and staying out late the night before a one-day international cricket match.

Symonds was not selected to play Bangladesh in the tri-series match in Cardiff after it emerged during Australia's warm-up on the ground that he was in no fit state to play.
Simon Katich replaced him, but is there a possibility that Watson had done something "similar". I find it hard to grasp that Watson wasn't in the team as a direct all-rounder replacement. Whatever the answer, this Ashes campaign hasn't started well.

While Symonds is not the sharpest tool in the shed, he should know better than that. I would send him home just to make an example of him

A big part of a tour is team spirit, much more so than when you're playing at home. You work and live with the rest of the squad. So Symond's actions will not have gone down at all well with his team-mates. He has let them, the management, the Australian fans and the paying public down badly. I agree that he should be sent home. Let someone else take his place who will take the opportunity, and the task ahead, more seriously. His decision to go out drinking showed extreme lack of repsect for the guys he's playing with and of Bangladesh too. He doesn't deserve to play for the best team in the world.

Very dumb move by Symonds, and they missed his bowling during the Bangladesh game as well.

> Mongoose, the team spirits will indeed suffer because of this.

Symonds should know better. And now he has to deal with the consequences even though its the side that suffers with him out of the side. I'm disappointed as are many Australians I'm sure.
