ps. think your comments on the runs and no-balls missed the mark
When both bowlers are showing similar form, then other facets of the game will enter the equation - runs scored, home pitch, fielding - so batting in this equation will come into it not just in looking at all rounders.

By the way, thats the comment the selectors made before the selection of the first test (David Boon) on Kaspa. If it missed the mark then you did not see who the selector was that was present at the match - David Boon. His job is then to report back to Bucc. and Ponting about the two bowlers. What do you think the comment will come from Mr Boon - Kaspa's no balls and was more expensive than Dizzy but took 3 more wickets.

Very true Leafy. You can not select a bowler under the premise that he will be needed to mount a late order recovery (though he has certainly save our butts a couple of times in the last year or so)
While batting ability is a factor, the bowler has to be chosen based on his primary forte. One thing i have noticed over the years is that when a bowler is scoring runs, he usually struggles to get wickets as his focus and concentration levels are dispersed. I have always considered it a bad sign when Warne gets runs for example because that usually means he is struggling with the ball.

A bit of a glitch in your argument there Seamer, Glen McGrath's batting 10 no and 20 no, his best batting figures in a test for a very long time. Plus he took wickets.

Exception to the rule A-Y. Those runs were purely a bonus and was an unexpected surprise. McGrath is selected to take wickets not score runs. Good point though.
