Mick Lewis the obvious replacement

6 wickets for Durham last week in the 2nd Div County final
Is ACB contracted
Has shown fairly consistant form over the past 2-3 years
Is quicker through the air than Kasper or Gillespie
Has a hostile natrual instinct
Looks like he may be Rodney Hogg's love child

I'm not familiar with him, what sort of bowler is he? Has he played tests before?

Has'nt played tests, but has had a prolonged sustained period of good form for Victoria in the Australian domestic comp which obviously bought him to the attention of the Australian Cricket Board who contracted him. Averages mid 20's in the Pura cup, looks and bowls like Rodney Hogg.

Is that Because Hogg is his bowling coach?

Anyway, that's hardly a compliment. I've spoken to Hogg before- not very quick mentaly

I kind of hope we use him or Tait. It will go a long way to debunking this theory that Australia is only on top because of McGrath. With Lee and McGrath gone, this promises to be one of the most exciting tests in some time. We do need to see some new faces - starting to get bored with the same players all the time

We'll know later today, I guess, but this late evening report from the BBC says that Lee is "adamant" that he will play at Old Trafford. Furthermore, Gilchrist tells us that McGrath is not 100% out of the game either (though Alcott is, predictably, not that bullish).

We are getting the same reports down here OF. Pity, myself and most of my friends were hoping that Tait would get a run. We are sick of Lee getting smashed about by the English batsmen and tailenders alike yet still be lauded as a crucial cog in the Aussie machinery. His bowling in the first innings at Edgebaston was a joke and we were behind the eightball for the rest of the test. He batted well though it must be said
Anyway, it seems he will play now so we will have to wait a while longer for Tait. As for McGrath, i think it will be a miracle if he is fit in time. Good news he is on the improve though.

Phantom,

Players are put into catogries which defines how much they get paid by CA (ACB is the old term).

E.G Catogry 1
McGrath, Ponting, Gilchrist, Warne will earn $700,000
Catogry 2
Martyn, Langer, Hayden will earn $500,000

That's just an example. The base contract for any CA listed player is $120,000. Not bad considering the highest a State contract can go is $90,000.
