Are the Aussie selectors crazy or just stupid?

This has now gone beyond the joke. I was excited leading into this test. Will they finally unleash McGill? Or give Tait a chance for glory? What did i get? The same damn lineup WITH GILLESPIE IN THE 11!?!?!!!

Our new selector Merv Hughes is on the spot - he has a good eye for bowling form. Well i Think Mev's eye does'nt go past his next beer and he as much as anyone is responsible with this pathetic state of affairs.

I won't bother putting up Gillespies bowling figures for the ODI series. Something along the lines of 1 wicket from 75 overs in 9 games. Pathetic yes i know, but the experts said "Can't judge test form from ODI's" Well me myself, i could see the crud coming out of his hand and saw the writing on the wall. "He is just around the corner - he is about to come good - has a great record" was the mantra. When will they wake up to themselves and cut out the cancer from the team that is Jason Gillespie?

His figures so far this series (not counting his pathetic returns this test)
44overs /163runs/2wickets/81.50average/132.0strike rate/3.70economy

Look at the overall bowling stats for the tour to date
http://aus.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2..._TEST_AVS.html

His pathetic efforts are at the bottom (way at the bottom) for both teams with bat and ball.

We are now attempting to repeat the pattern of getting off to a reasonable start, bringing on Gillespie to leak runs (heamorage actally) and then bowling Warne for the rest of the innings to repair the damage. He is no good as a change bowler as it is and we expect him to get wickets as a change bowler? What, do we have to lose the series before thay get rid of him
I am disgusted. Does any other Aussies out there care to defend him now? I suspect i will now get an agreeable silence and nothing more
R.I.P DIZZY (pleeeeease!!!!)

Who picks the Austalian side, is it still down to the selectors? England selection seems to be done between Fletcher & Vaughan.

With McGrath fit to play, I thought if Australia were to play another quick bowler I could not see why Gillespie would play over Kasper who looked a better bowler if Edgbaston was anything to go by.

Gillespies looks a shadow of his former self and a broken man. It's a shame if his career ends this way, but as far as the Ashes go I'm happy to see his 'buffet bowling' - help yourself!

You could have chosen, arguably the second best Leggie in the world, or Australia's up and commer could have had a run in the test squad... But no you went with the out of form Gillespie!

I want Trevor Hons' head on a plate.

Merv Hughes is the selector on the spot and the one that has been going on with his "He's just around the corner" mantra. I had concerns with him as selector from the start. I would say to Merv "Drag your drunken ass out of the bar and DO YOUR JOB"
We have found the cancer - it needs to be cut out. If you don't like the sight of blood - resign.

I know figures don't tell the full story but Gillespie is keeping it a lot tighter than McGrath. But I take your point.

McGrath has been pretty tight, England have rode their luck but played him pretty well on the whole and punished the few bad balls, as well as a few thickish edges through 3rd man from Trescothick and Vaughan. Gillespie hasn't a clue unfortunately for him and Australia.

McGrath's figures would look better with the keeper clinging on to the dropped catches.

I think Gillespie should play the rest of the series, poor lamb.

Mwahahahaha!

Seriously though, he was once good, wasn't he? So why the severe dip in form? Does he suffer from "The Harmison" i.e. does he get homesick? Or is he concerned about terrorism? Or is he just going downhill gracelessly?
