Australia always have loads of quality batsmen but I don't see too many fine young bowlers from those stats.

Tait is already in the team and may go on to have a fine career.

Nathan Bracken was tried before and didn't impress. Least I think he played tests before didn't he?

All the others have only played a few matches so can't really tell. Have you see a lot of promise on them?

Remember that Aus is generaly a batsmen's paridise rather than giving aid to the bowlers so it's hard to gauge how well they are doing. The bowlers are there. There are no Glenn McGrath's but there is some quality.

Bracken was playing with an injury against India and was bowling much slower than he usualy does. On top of that it was against a team of Batsmen who were all firing.

Doery took apart Pakistan when they toured... Mind you so did the WA 2nd XI. That either means that Pakistan were playing horrible or that WA was playing really well. Dan Cullen is a fantastic prospect too. Was CA contracted this year after taking 43 wickets last season.

Maybe it won't be so bad when McGrath and Warne go. We'll see.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new blood anyway.

Chris Hartly is a star in the making from all reports. Qld is the only state to have 2 keepers on contracts.

We should have a few more aussie a games this year and give the young team a chance against international teams.

I can probably only talk from an SA perspective. Cosgrove was dropped from the State team as his form collapsed. Cleary is probably only ever going to be a 1st class cricketer. Tait and Cullen are the only players of test class in SA at the moment, although both are exciting prospects. A few others may step up in the upcoming season, but for now, there's a useful smattering of first class players but limited test capacity. They may give the Pura Cup a shake, but it would be on the back of the older players (Elliot, Lehmann & Blewett) rather than the up and coming test players (Tait and Cullen aside).

You are so perdantic.. you know I used Ali Cook as an example of one good young player.. I didn't say he was the only one.. just that he was better than the other examples you gave

The problem you have is that when will these guys get a chance, probably not until they are well into their 30's... You have a bottle neck.. and who's fault is that John Bucnanan and Trevor Hohns, for not picking the next generation when they have an opportunity.. apart from Clarke and Tait....

anyway some names for you... not as good batting avererages but hey as you tell us pitches suit batsmen over their -

If you are just looking at stats, try adding

Mark Davies 24 yrs 47 wickets @15.55

(last year 49 wickets again at an impressive average.)
Playing in the same team that Mick Lewis(Aus), Ashley Noffke(Aus), B Williams(Aus), and S Tait(Aus) have played and failed to come close to those figures.

We also have a young lad called Gordon Muchall at the same club as Durham, at 22 looks a very good prospect.
