| If Australia had to choose a medel for it's best up and coming player in Australia over the next five years, who would it be.
Vote the number and the reason this player should be, If other who would it be and why. Last edited by Paoli : 31-10-2005 at 02:24 AM. Reason: Splitting Thread |

| Phil Jacques. This guy will be a very dominant Test and One Day opener for Australia as soon as either Hayden or Langer are dropped or retire. Also as soon as the selectors bite the bullet and thrust him into the one day team (for the next world cup). This guy is talented, consistent and attacking. Every thing a good Aussie batter needs. |

| i think david hussey because just watching his agressive style for victoria makes him a very good player. he can go for almost any bowler and hit them for four. also i think phill jaques has a solid future in international cricket |

| The competition would be between Michael Clarke, Mark Cosgrove, David Hussey or Cameron White. I think Clarke would win because he has already played for Australia and scored a few centuries but if the medal was to be given out today Mark Cosgrove would win because of the great form that he has been in. I wouldn't choose Michael Hussey to win because he has been around for a long time and has proven that he is a very good player but only recently has been able to break into the Australian side because of the departure of players such as the Waugh twins, Damien Martyn and Darren Lehmann.

| I think that David Hussey and Jaques are a little bit too old to call them up and coming players, its like calling Bracken an up and coming player. there all in there late 20's up and coming players are usually under 25 years old |

| I think that you should add that young Bradman chap to your list of up and comers. Something tells me he'll be a bit special. I think that the only consideration of most of the listed players as 'up and coming' would be as future coaches or slectors. David Hussey is probably closer to retirement than a baggy green test cap. I would suggest that Clarke (as the current Australian Player of the Year) is hardly 'up and coming' - not to suggest that he doesn't have a bright future, just that he's already arrived. Michael Hussey at nearly 31 is older than some test retirees - he's about the same age as Jason Gillespie (another 'up and coming'?). As for the others in the list and those mentioned, I'd put Watson ahead of White marginally, although both could either be the answer to Gilchrist's loss of form (or not). Cosgrove needs to show this form for a full season or longer. He's only just back from being dropped due to complete loss of form at the end of 2004/5 and fitness issues at the start of this season. Jaques has potential and I'd probably put him ahead of both Watson and White at the moment. I think that Watson and White have the potential to alter Australian cricket to a greater extent should they make it at test level, as a test-class allrounder is pretty much a holy grail of building a balanced competitive team; I just think Jaques is the more likely to make it happen. |

| I think mike hussey is a top player n he is showing that now but i think phil jaques even though he didnt show much in his debut is someone to look out for and hes only 26 hes got some good years ahead of him if he can keep up his recent form.
