Welcome to the board Spin K,
I should imagine lots of cricketers started off in such a way.

Look at the West Indies yougsters, they play cricket on beaches, as well as open areas, so you may be playing for Australia one day.
A leg spinner of coarse

Well, I've played cricket in all sorts of places ...

The back yard, throwing the ball against the garage wall. I became predominantly off-side in my play, because hitting leg-side risked hitting it into next door's garden.

On the road, outside a friend's house. You had to bowl yorkers, because the kerb stone was the wicket!

On a local school football field, complete with dangeous bounce, which made Headingley look like a flat track from Pakistan.

In the garden at the house Lemming and I shared with three others last year. There was a big ridge half way down, and another, more disguised ridge a few feet closer to the batsman. We were pretty well enclosed in the garden, so you could give it a good smack without losing too many balls.

Back yard cricket is the starting place for just about anyone who plays the game. You have to play in the back yard before you can decide if you want to join a club. I'm sure just about every cricketer on this forum has some fond memories of playing cricket in weird places.

I practice at the local nets which are astro-turf but have great fun playing in my backyard until someone hits the ball over the back fence into the bush and loses the ball. I have played in my garage and still do, however it's dangerous playing in there, i've already broken 3 windows and 1 light.

Yeah my garden got a bit small once my shots got to ambitious, generally go down to the nets at a local high school these days.

back when i was 13ish my cousin and i mowed and rolled a pitch in the middle of a paddock on his farm. That was pretty cool.

Has anyone got any good tips on making a pitch in your own backyard?

How about the family room with a plastic bat and a bouncy ball? Hehe! Boy did that hurt! (especialy when we broke something valuable!)
