The NZ media branded this move of resting McGrath as arrogance, they were made to eat their words thought because Clarke -his replacement- bowled quite well and took some wickets.
From the result of the first game it was well placed arrogance. Lee took 3/5!!! and the black caps were made to look ordinary. The selectors wanted to give Gilly a break too but CA told them it would hurt the quality of the series.

Australian Bowlers

Australia has plenty of bowlers who can step up to test cricket and be successful, of course they are not as good as say a Warne or a McGrath yet! But they wernt champions before they got there test debut. we are talkin like people did when Lillie and Tommo were at the end of there careers, there will be a new generation of bowlers who will be very successful test cricketers due to the depth that is coming through state and district levels, also there is alot more cricket coaching and general crickat education around now than when Warne and McGrath were coming through the ranks.

Of course there will be young talent drafted into the side. A guy like Nathan Bracken will step up, he is at the beginning of his career, and has probably at least 5-7 years left in him.

I don't think we can. Of the current crop, we've got the lad Tait who looks a brilliant prospect. But if he does become our No.1, I reckon we'll become Pakistan like him in comparison to Shoaib- hits it every so oftne.

That said, Rowan said that when McGrath came in he hadn't played alot of FC cricket. Maybe there's a joker in the pack...
