McGrath is a key part of the Aussie attack but Australia have shown that they can survive without him.

No, we can't survive without him. That was documented at Trent Bridge and Edgbaston---interesting that the two tests he didn't play, we lost. New Zealand, to be frank, aren't much of an opposition currently, and with the South African series looming we've decided to give these blokes an opportunity to put their hand up for selection in the 2007 World Cup. Bracken's an OK bowler but will be just that. Handy. Will have good days and bad days. Hope Micky Lewis has a good one, but I don't think Stuey Clark is good enough.

as far as im concerned if resting mcGrath enables him to play more games in the long run then i think thatll help australia more than having him for one series against an out of form New Zealand

The NZ media branded this move of resting McGrath as arrogance, they were made to eat their words thought because Clarke -his replacement- bowled quite well and took some wickets.

Australia have long boasted that they could put two teams out to challenge any other country. I do agree they have great depth in batting...but the bowling looks decidedly dodgy......& take McGrath & Warne out....and it`s about as effective as a limp handshake.

Blooding a few of the second stringers in a series like this against NZ is a good idea....One dayers are all very well , but aside from the world cup most of `em are forgotten quickly..........so this is a perfect time to try a few lads out.

so that's why Lee, Bracken and McGill all proformed fantasticly during the WI series... In one innings we bowled them out for under 200 and neither McGrath nor Warne were on the score sheet.

Tait also looks the goods in the test arena, Clark is another possibility as is Lewis and I'm sure a few others who I've forgot to mention. Not to mention Dan Cullen who looks to be Shane Warne's mirror image.

Losing two of the best bowlers of all time will hurt us ofcourse but it's just a cliche' myth that we can't survive without them.
