Ricky Ponting

Amazing player and well done on passing 9000 test runs. His average is truly remarkable and he is the best player around at the moment. At his age with his appetite for runs he could set records that could only be dreamed of 20 years ago.

I just hope he has a dramatic overnight loss of form that lasts for 6 weeks.

He will probally end up with the most runs ever and most centuries. By looking at these sort of career statistics he could end up being the second greatest batsman to play the game.

Top 10 test century makers
  1. Tendulkar 35 from 211 innings (Ave 55.39)
  2. Lara 34 from 230 innings (Ave 53.14)
  3. Gavaskar 34 from 214 innings (Ave 51.12)
  4. S. Waugh 32 from 260 innings (51.06)
  5. Ponting 32 from 177 innings (Ave 59.53)
  6. Bradman 29 from 80 innings (Ave 99.94)
  7. Border 27 from 265 innings (Ave 50.56)
  8. Sobers 26 from 160 innings (Ave 57.78)
  9. Hayden 26 from 152 innings (Ave 52.74)
  10. Inzamam-Ul-Haq 25 from 191 innings (Ave 50.24)
Only bradman has a better innings to 100's ratio and a better average.

Top 10 most test career runs
  1. Lara 230 innings 11904 runs (Ave 53.14)
  2. Border 265 innings 11174 runs (Ave 50.56)

Ponting has got hammered by me in the past over his captaincy but he was superb today.Maybe he has learnt from his previous mistakes but he is totally hammering Flintoff in the captaincy stakes in this series.

Its not difficult to out-captain Flintoff to be honest - he's not up to it.

Ponting has performed brilliantly. However, I do wish he'd look slightly more pleased with his achievements.

After the second test Ponting has moved one up in the most runs list passing Dravid to be at number 6, and has passed Steve Waugh to be 4th on the most hundreds list. His average is almost 60, its 59.99!

Ponting is a fantastic bat. When he retires I'm sure he'll have the most runs, most hundreds and possibly one of the top 3 averages. That would be a great achievement.
