| Langer will be replaced by either Jaques or Rogers. If they take the in form batsman, Rogers. Warne will be replaced by MacGill for a couple of years, which will give cricket Australia some time to develop their spinning youngsters. Someone like Bailey or Doran in my opinion. Cullen is not good enough yet. With McGrath gone, they'll probably turn to Johnson as Tait is too much like Lee. Watch out for Hilfenhaus though. Symonds will be replaced by Watson when he is fit, who will then be replaced by MacDonald (as he is the superior alrounder, and both Watson and Symonds are piechuckers). Gilchrist and Hayden won't leave. Therefore, the team: Hayden Rogers Ponting Hussey Clarke MacDonald (Watson and Symonds have no business here) Gilchrist Lee Clark Johnson MacGill |

And it's a no for Hauritz, he's not even the second best spinner in NSW. |

| I'm a bit surprised Langer has chosen to retire. The signals he's been giving off for the last few months suggested that he wanted to stay on. A gentle nudge from the selectors perhaps? Or maybe he just changed his mind. |

| 4 gone and the possibility of Gilchrist and Hayden after the world cup.Quite an exciting time for Australians as you can debate long and hard the merits of various players to replace the stars. Obviously short term it may hinder the team but long term we just don't know how good the replacements will be until they are given a chance. For all we know McGrath's longterm replacement may be just as good. |

| Hello, Just back from Oz, not surprised one bit that Langer has retired and I expect to see more retirements after the World Cup (if they win), probably Hayden and Gilchrist. This is exactly what I was predicting before the Ashes series, and why I felt that the focus was too much on winning the Ashes and not on creating a long term winning team. The Aussies may have won the Ashes with a team of old men, and will probably win the World Cup too, but the long term knock on will be huge. Put it this way, the Australians are now in decline, and I am very much looking forward to 2009, when England should win the Ashes back. |

| Where are the weak links in a batting line up that includes Jaques, Hussey, Ponting and Clarke... with Hodge, Voges, Rogers, White and others fighting over the remaining spots and Haddin at 7? What's the big deal with being reliant on MacGill as a spinner? Or reliant on Stuart Clark and Brett Lee as the spearhead of the attack (especially with a prospect as bright as Mitchell Johnson lined up for the third spot)? Having bedded Hussey and Clarke into the top order and Clark into the attack.... Australia have pretty well cracked their "transition" problems in time for losing Langer, Hayden, Martyn and McGrath... and with Haddin and MacGill more than respectable as replacements for Gilchrist and Warne... I see no reason why Australia shouldn't start the 2009 Ashes as favourites. England have issues of their own: this series has seen Hoggard as the solitary specialist bowler capable of cutting it at the highest level... and if Flintoff is as shot as I suspect he is (being a bowler who just cannot shoulder the workload any more) then England had better start praying that they can successfully fast-track one or two from amongst Adil Rashid, Stuart Broad, Tom Smith and maybe dearest "I make Mahmood look the model of control" Onions! Which of these contains the greater number of concerns? Strauss, Cook, Vaughan, Pietersen, Bell, Joyce, Adil Rashid, Read / Foster / Davies, Hoggard, Panesar + 2 seamers Jacques, Hussey, Ponting, Clark, Haddin, Lee, Johnson, Clark, MacGill + 2 specialist batsmen I'd currently rate England's concerns as greater!
