McGrath who rarely go's above 130 kph these days used to bowl mid 140's in his younger days. Lots of club opening bowlers city and country zip in above 130 kph, but the further you get away from the national team the more the consistancy, accuracy and ability to cut or swing drops off their bowling. Steve was a good honest bowler like Greg Chappell and Andrew Symonds more often than not bowling around mid 120's with a bit of cut. But he was not averaging in the 20's nor will Cameron White. White like Waugh is predominantly a batsmen, like Waugh he has been given opportunity at a younger age than his peers, unlike Waugh he has had to battle for his spot with higher calibre domestic players competing for it. In the late eighties when Steve Waugh came into the side Australian cricket was at a low ebb.

I know that McGrath used to be a lot quicker, but the point is that he was still a great bowler bowling at 130kph. Therefore, a lack of pace doesn’t necessarily mean a person isn’t a quality bowler. I’m afraid we’ll have to agree to disagree with your Steve Waugh comparison. Personally I think White’s situation is nothing like Steve’s. Oh, and Steve had a killer slower ball, which poos all over Symonds. White will probably take over Symonds role in the ODI team once he retires, and he’s definitely a part of the 20/20 side, but what do you think White’s chances are of forcing his way into the test side? And which position would he take?

| People always forget how young he is, his improvement over the last year is second to none. His hitting power is up there with the best in the world. His bowling has a long way to go but so did his batting last Australian domestic season. You never know whats around the corner. He has all the talent you could want, and the youngest first class captain ever. There must be something special there.

He hasn't done much in the Commonwealth Bank series but he is still young and learning. His bowling doesn't look up to international cricket yet either.

I believe he is for real as well. Some of the great players have to find their feet at international level for a few years before breaking out. His true test of character will come when his team is chasing a tough total and he has to stick in there for quite a while to see his team to victory. How he deals with that pressure will be make or break for him

Maybe someone should offer Mitch Johnson a million dollars to 'sprain' his ankle and let White into the team in his place!
