Moody says he won't coach Australia

Moody out of contention for Australia role.

It appears that Moody is more likely to do the sensible thing and build experience with Sri Lanka, a domestic side or very possibly (surely now odds-on) England: makes sense as the Aussie job is likely to come his way eventually... and he'll then be better placed to nail it down for a decade or more.

That suggests the Aussie job might now become a one-horse race.

Nielsen, the former South Australia wicketkeeper who is now the Australian Centre of Excellence head coach, looms as the frontrunner to become Australia's coach in the wake of Moody's withdrawal. Buchanan's eight-year term is due to expire after the World Cup.

I don't really have a strong opinion on who is the next coach, providing it is not Greg Chappell. He was useless as South Australian coach, useless as Indian coach, and would be useless a Aussie coach.
Australia is about to go though a rebuilding period, so i think Nielsen would be a good option considering his recent experience and knowledge our young players

If Moody does want the job - great decision to pass it now and go for it later.

Reasoning behind that is who would want the job after such a successful period by buchanan (?).

Let someone else look bad as Australia rebuilds and then go after the job. Meanwhile he can take a team with no pressure on him to higher standards and look better as a coach.

Good point AY, but do you really think it will be the poison challice people expect the coaching job to be?

Firstly, many people expect Australia to struggle during the "rebuilding" period, so the expectationswon't be as great as many think.

Secondly, world cricket is fairly weak at the moment and it is hard to see any team easily beating us. We might find it harder to get the 20 wickets, but opposition teams will find it harder to get 20 of our wickets - we still have a very some very good batsmen. Replacing Martyn and Langer will make us stronger rather than weaker i think.

I think we will still keep the #1 ranking for some time , so that will reflect well on the next coach.

Similar to following Sir Alex Ferguson at Man Utd.An almost impossible task as you will be constantly compared and the pressure to succeed will be immense.

Your argument makes sense.
