I agree, but it would have to be in place of Brett Lee as going in to a game with 2 r/h fast bowlers leaves you with an inbalanced bowling attack which invites disaster. I would take Tait over Lee if i was a selector

He bolwed fewer overs... and yet his team mates needed to contribute an additional big century in order to compensate for the difference in profligacy (and had Tait bowled as many overs as Gillespie the difference would have been near enough TWO centuries).!
Rachael please bear in mind Gillespie is now an old wise dog back playing in a competition mainly filled with pups. He was a good international bowler until like all of us his time on the international scene expired. His pace dropped and the elite batsmen of international cricket started mauling him.
Tait is young he has been mauled as often young bowlers are at the start of their carreers, but he is becoming more consistant. OK he had a bad night against England allthough it was not much worse than most of the other Australian bowlers that night and followed it up with a ripper against New Zealand where he was clearly the stand out bowler of the night by a long way.
The other big thing that Tait has got over Gillespie is that we know Taits potential growth is still ahead of him. Gillespie's potential growth is now behind him and whats left ahead of him is potential shrinkage.

pps. Don't bank on strike rate as a means of compensating for economy: Brett Lee's "attacking" merit amounts to a strike rate of 53.15... where Hoggard manages 55.3 and Gillespie managed 54.9!
Plodders probably suit softer English and New Zealand pitches that seam Rachael not the more arid pitches of other test playing countries.

What stood out about his performance against New Zealand, was that he took 1 for 26 on a lifeless pitch. It says to me that he's one of the few bowlers who has the potential to succeed anywhere in any conditions. I think that he needs to be in the squad just for that.

I thought I'd take note of Bracken's speed today, just to put to bed the nonsense that he struggles to hit 130 kph. So here are the balls he's bowled over 135 kph, after 3 overs, bowling into the slight breeze.

4th ball 1st over, 138.3
1st ball 2nd over, 137
2nd ball 2nd over 136
3rd ball 2nd over, 138
5th ball 2nd over, 137
6th ball 2nd over, 135
2nd ball 3rd over, 136
3rd ball 3rd over, 138
4th ball, 3rd over, 139.2
5th ball, 3rd over, 139
6th ball, 3rd over, 136

So Johnson doesn't have 15kph over Bracken, he probably has 8 maybe.

Well congrats to Bracken draexem, maybe he read this thread.

Nathan if your still reading it how about getting rid of that silly "Alice hair band" maybe get some dreadlocks like Symonds or ask Jason Gillespie if he has still got his old scrunchie from his ponytail days.

Nathan anything is better than that Alice hair band.

Bracken is a swing bowler if you look at his ODI international season in 2006 with the ball you would see that pace is not as important as his accuracy movement and brains. In my opinion he was the best ODI bowler in the world in 2006. In 23 matches he took 46 wickets at 18.82 with a strike rate of 25.3.

I don't like Clark in ODI's but he is a brilliant test bowler, McGrath is the most accurate bowler in the world and if you want six yorkers in an over he will bowl five of the six right in the block hole, he no longer gets the new ball but his 2006 was not his best with wickets but he was still able to take 15 wickets at 26.00 from 11 matches.
