I think what's let Australia down in the past few matches would be the catching and fielding.I agree that the major players like Ponting,Symonds,Lee etc. were not playing, but the fielding standards must be better if they're going to win the World Cup.

He's doing okay, taking 28 wickets at 29 in the Pura Cup (4 day competition).

MacGill has been in okay form this season without setting the world on fire. Reports of him being out of form are well overstated. It should also be noted that MacGill has often come into the test team and performed very well after producing mediocre state bowling performances. I agree that Hogg is the next best spinner in Australia after MacGill, but i think MacGill is a class above him.

It would be in Australia's best intersts to put MacGill straight into the test team. He is a proven test performer and wouldnt let you down. Anyway, Warnes record in state cricket wasnt too great either but....... .

I think at the moment their main problem is in the quick bowling department, their last few one day games has shown the lack of penetration in their attack.

Well Australias batting is not in bad shape if they can make 330 in 50 overs without Ponting, Gilchrist, Clarke or Symonds in the side.

Any side that can include Gilchrist, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey and Symonds has a very strong batting line up. For some reason the bowling seems a little weak I never thought it would though .

Leaving Stuart Clark out of the WC squad seems a stupid idea, especially after his Ashes performances.

Or is he regarded as Australia's Hoggard?

I think Clarke should have been selected. Proven performer in the big match situation under pressure, and a genuine match winner. But he lost form at the wrong time unfortunately for him and as always, you should only select on form - not on reputation.
Shame about Clark, but the bowlers selected ahead of him should be up to the task.
