Pietersen is scared of fast bouncers

Lasith Malinga showed in Kevin Pietersen's breif innings against him at Galle that thier is a bit of a yellow streak running down the back of this batsman when facing the real quick short stuff.

I hope the selectors and Brett Lee, Shuan Tait and Mitchell Johnson take note of this for the next ashes series.

Pietersen's jumping gloved dismismal from the Malinga bouncer showed fear.

He will get no respite when our bowlers see the frightened whites of his eyes peering through his helmut.

Until his head turns away from the ball of course.

It was a ball that took off like nothing had in the Sri Lankan innings over the previous day and a half,of course it roughed him up and got him out but he wasn't expecting it at all as the pitch hadn't done anything like that.Perhaps that shows how badly we had bowled but no other deliveries did that so you can just put it down to being an unplayable ball.

He seemed to cope fairly well last winter and in 2005 against Lee the piethrower so why would there be a problem in future?

To be fair, who isn't scared of a small red ball at speeds of 90+ mph going towards your head?

Thats all it was, a near unplayable ball. If he had been scared of the ball he would have been closer to the square leg umpire and not got a nick on it. He may have a slight weakness to the shortball outside off stump but he isnt scared.

Pietersen has started to show big cracks in his batting. One problem with KP is that he is not nearly as successful outside of English conditions so that is a worry for him. He showed something against Malinga which should never be shown by a batsman. Fear, which defeated him before he got that good ball. That ball also was not unplayable Pietersen just made it look that way.

Pietersen stats
Home - 35 inn, 1991 runs at 58.56, 8x100, 5x50, Hs 226
Away - 27 inn, 1003 runs at 40.12, 2x100, 5x50 , Hs 158

The biggest problem KP is having is not being able to score runs in the subcontinent.

In India - 6 inn, 216 runs at 36.00, 2x50, Hs 87
In Pakistan - 6 inn, 201 runs at 33.50, 1x100, Hs 100
In Sri Lanka - 5 inn, 96 runs at 24.00, Hs 45*

I cannot see how an average of 40 is a problem, if that is a problem then there are plenty of "problems" in world cricket at the momenet. O.k i understand that has not scored enough runs on the subcontinet but the touring life of these tours is not "peitersen stlye " with very little time outside the hotle and cricket grounds, this is defently not his style. Though i understand he should learn to cope, if he can still produce an average of 40 without playing bangladesh then watch out for when he plays there a second time round.

Because Mitchell Johnson sends them down about the same pace as Lee, and Tait sends them down quicker than both of them.

I think you're being a tad mischevious here Acker!!

At the Oval in 2005 KP was reallly scared when Lee was bowling him bouncers in the mid 90smph I agree.

Scared he was going to kill some one in the road driving past as he smashed them out of the ground!! Unlike at Lords in the same series where hayden bravely stood up to a Harmison bouncer by couragously playing with the middle of his....helmet!!

Really Acks of all the countries to start calling other nations about not liking short pitched bowling!! Lets not forget your country's undisputed batting god had his average virtually halved and bleated to his board continually for a rule change when things got round his nose in what has to be the biggest whinge in sporting history.

Lastly can i just ask why an English batsman dismissal against a SL bowler appears on the oz thread. You're not worried about him are you?

mikey...i hope u mean don bradman when u mean australia's undisputed batting god....and biggest whinge in sporting history being bodyline controversy....well if u did mean that....i'm sorry but i'm glad nasty cricketers such as douglas jardine dont exist anymore...i'm shocked u term bodyline a whinge even after people were critically injured in the vicious turn of events.
