Sir William has a particular ring to it.

Whilst we're on the 12th Man Topic it'd be good to see Big Maxy Walker get a knighthood for his services to entertainment.
Long time no see Paoli

Are you and big Max hiding on a desert island or something.

I agree the channel 9 commentary box has been missing something since Max has been gone.

He might not be the main ingredient or the main course of the meal. But Max is a bit like the Tomato Sauce, Coffee, Sugar, Salt, Pepper or even the toilet paper.

You notice the absence and make a careful note to buy some the following day.

The channel 9 commentary has been very dull since he has been gone for the past 8-9 years.

Come home Max....please ...if not to channel 9 at least back to the ABC radio.

G'day Acker. Good to see you on again. Been in England the last 12 months mate, didn't manage to check in at all.

I agree with that. I never saw a whole lot of Max but I thought he was fantastic. Ultimately the fact that he and Chappell didn't get along led to him getting the ar'se. Chappell who was the Inaugural Aussie Captain in WSC was more of a mate than Max Walker to Kerry Packer.

Had Maxy as a guest speaker a while back, funny bloke. I was hoping he'd be the same maniac that you get off The 12th Man. The way he's portrayed on the CD's is hilarious.

Max/Bill/Tony/Richie/Chappelli were the ingredients. It'll be quite dull when the likes of Heals/Tubs/Slats/Mark Nicholas take over.

Poor old Max

A lot of people actualy beleive he "clobbered" the "male model from Mudgee" (Kenny Sutcliffe) in the channel 9 toilets.

And held the Chappell brothers hostage at gunpoint in the channel 9 commentary box during a test cricket match.

Good onya Billy Birmingham..

We have a couple of months now to do something on this.

Any ideas boys and girls?

Seriously we really need to leave no stone unturned to do this if we can.

There must be something we can do? I won't list them but we can all mention significantly less worthy cricketing and broadacsting knights?

C'MON GUYS!!!!!

I don't think Howard's being knighted, I think he's being made a member of the Order of the Garter (whatever the hell that is). I'm pretty sure that Australians can't be knighted, but there must be some order that Richie can be inducted into.

As an aside, can anyone imagine Sir Ian Chappell? That would be akin to holding the Olympics in North Korea, wouldn't it?

Well he was treasurer to Malcom Fraser in Fraser's term as Prime Minister and Fraser was picked up by police dazed and confused in Memphis during a U.S.A visit wearing womens clothes and makeup.

What's that got to do with anything you may ask ?

Well from my memories fish net stockings get held up by a garter belt hence I am suspicious it has something to do with cross dressing.

Aurelius - Aussies certainly can be knighted. Her Maj will dish out the gongs to anyone she is asked to by the Prime Minister, and there's nothing in Australian law which prevents and Aussie from accepting, certainly based on my own research (less than two years ago). Your last Governor General but one was Sir William Deane if memory serves. (Though that could be irrelevant to this, come to think of it, as I have no idea when he was knighted.)

And, more importantly, I have no idea what we can do to get a knighthood for Richie Benaud. I've written to the Cabinet Office in London at least once - there's a copy of my letter in the WAT archives somewhere - but they don't reply to this sort of thing, it seems. Next time I'm at the Palace, I'll have a word with the Queen directly. Or maybe you guys Down Under could just ask Dame Edna to give Her Maj a quick phone call: I understand from Edna that they are pretty close.
