Likely retirement dates

Looking at the current test team first minus Gilly (allready retired) then the likely's or up and comers.
Most will retire at the end of the Australian summer in the year mentioned. I have given batsmen and spinners a few extra years on their "use by" than pacemen (and subtracted some again for the fragile Tait and Watson)
Keepers I think "36" is about the magic number considering reflexes required.

Hayden...36yo....est.ret..2010
Jaques....28yo....est.ret..2017
Ponting...33yo....est.ret..2012
M.Hussey.32yo..est.ret..2013
Clarke.....26yo....est.ret..2019
Symonds.32yo...est.ret..2011
Haddin....30yo...est.ret..2014
Hogg......36yo...est.ret..2009
Lee........31yo...est.ret..2011
Johnston.26yo...est.ret..2016
Clark......32yo...est.ret..2010

Of the outsiders

MacGill....36yo...est.ret..2009
Warne.....38yo...est.ret..????...(There is a medium strength rumour currently doing the circut's)
White......24yo..est.ret...2020
Bailey......22yo..est.ret...2022
Cullen......23yo..est.ret...2021
Watson....26yo..est.ret...2015
Bracken....30yo..est.ret...2012
Noffke......30yo..est.ret...2012
Tait.........24yo..est.ret...2015
Hilfenhaus.24yo..est.ret...2018
Siddle.......23yo..est.ret...2019
Ronchi......26yo..est.ret...2018
Rogers......30yo..est.ret...2014
D.Hussey...30yo..est.ret...2015
Hodge.......33yo..est.ret...2011
Voges........28yo..est.ret...2016
Pomersbach.23yo.est.ret...2022

I don't think one can estimate individual players' retirement plans based on, say, Hayden's age. I doubt if even he would stay as long as you've speculated. I recall reading somewhere that his ambition was to reach 100 tests for Oz, which he should do soon. I think Hayden will then retire, while his career figures are still very impressive.

Likewise, Brett Lee, superbly fit though he is, cannot be expected to go on at the current pace for too long. I think Lee, like Ponting, will aim for a winning exit at the 2009 Ashes series in England.

I remember reading somewhere that Ponting planned to retire after the 2011 World Cup. Just a shame that he, like many of the current team, will never be able to play it in their own country.

Considering that no host country has ever won a World Cup, I don't think that they will be too disappointed.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. But I think any player in the world would love to play the World Cup in their home country, whether they won or not.
