Question, if you sell Binnion, what type of effect will this have on the crowd attendance. Would this then disadvantage the team in regards to future gate receipts. Or would the money derived from the sell be enough to upgrade a lesser player to the same quality as Binnion is now?

We still have to play both the teams above us and I think the likelihood of finishing in the top position is slim. Both those teams beat us in the first round. I'd prefer to sell Binnion and consolidate our position. Here is some research I did into ground capacity for the teams in our league. The figures for each type of seating is the best for this season. Surprisingly, Oldham are doing well without much income from gate receipts but are they saddled with huge debt to pay their player salaries? Keswick Bees seem to have developed their ground capacity well and should eventually be promoted if they invest in player development wisely. You can see the bottom teams haven't developed their grounds well and are losing potential income to invest in player development. We are okay but need to expand our Covered Seats and Members Area. Tomorrow, I'll do some research in level 3 to see what sort of Attendances we'll need to support a strong team in that level. That should be our goal so when we eventually get promoted we won't be relegated at the end of our first season in level 3.

I doubt the game is that complicated yet, A-Y! At least I hope not! I've also thought that we probably want to realise a cool million from selling Binnion, but I'm wondering how many teams would actually have £1m to spend in such an early stage of this game (it only started 1 season ago!)

Good News Everybody!

Just got our youth team pull for the week, and I reckon he'll be going straight into the first team!

Matthew Antoine (356502)
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, respectable form, fresh
(respectable batting form, respectable bowling form)
A cautious player with abysmal leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Plays For: Connells Estates CC
Nationality: England
Age: 17 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 5,298
Wages: £755 p/w

Stamina: feeble
Wicket Keeping: feeble
Batting: abysmal
Concentration: respectable
Bowling: respectable
Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: feeble

Looks like a number 11 batsman, though he can replace Vince Carter in the first team. On the rankings - ABYSMAL is actually better than WORTHLESS and RESPECTABLE is better than COMPETENT. The Concentration and Consistency of Antoine is much better than Carter's, so I'm dropping Carter and putting in Antoine! Do you think we should sell Carter now?

FYI

Vince Carter (59096)
LH Batsman, LH Spin Bowler, proficient form, moderate
(proficient batting form, proficient bowling form)
A cautious player with feeble leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Plays For: Connells Estates CC
Nationality: England
Age: 22 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 3,196
Wages: £583 p/w

Stamina: feeble
Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: worthless
Concentration: feeble
Bowling: competent
Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: feeble

Suggests to me that we need to consolidate our financial position pretty sharpish, we are going into the red at a worrying rate. A lack of home fixtures at the moment doesn't seem to be helping, could we move Statto's challenge game to our place?

I think we should play him in the Friendly or is it too late? Update: I see you have put him in the Friendly as a bowler - good move. The Friendly starts tomorrow at 10:30 AM GMT. Will last about 6 hours if most of the overs are played.

Fortunately, our next league game should be a money-spinner as we're at home to top-of-the-table Oldham CC. Now, what I'm thinking is we should go all out to win this - and if we lose, sell Binnion afterwards. Thanks to the youth pull, we've also now got a bit of a better looking squad. I also think we need to axe some of the deadwood, so I'm going to transfer list every one of the deadwood players to see if we can get rid of any of them. It might be worth considering releasing some of them on a 'free' to save us paying their wages when they aren't going to get near to the first team

If people could have a look through the squad to see if you think there are any players to release on a freebee, that'd be great!

Good point Colly, we may have to schedule more friendlies at home to get some more gate income.

Andy, could you explain what a "youth team pull" is? Also, what are the considerations when transfering players? Can they still play for us while on the transfer list?

A youth team 'pull' can be described as follows:

Our team invests £12k pcw in the youth team (this is the maximum, the better the youth team investment, the better the chances of 'pulling' a good youth player - this definately pays off in the long run). Once a week, you can then request either a 'batsman' 'bowler' or 'keeper' to be pulled from the Youth Team into the First Team squad to become a permanent member of the First Team squad. Often, these players are rubbish and need to be released on a free immediately. Sometimes, you get a decent youngster who you should sell to realise the cash. If you pull a player good enough for the First Team, put them in and invest in some net sessions for them to make sure they get the chance to improve still further.

Players on the transfer list are still available to play. They remain on the transfer list for a week, if there are no bids, they are removed from the list. If bids have been made, the player leaves the club at the end of that week, and the cash is received.
