Connells CC Matches

We currently have a match against Borobia LegEnds, but it's not going well. After 42 overs we're 170-5, with Binnion being run out for 80.

Well, quite a recovery led by Midworth, king of the "go slow early, then whack them out of here" strategy, sith cameos from Stroud and Fife late on, including this cracking final over:

49.66Bennett to Fife Advances down the wicket and lofts it sweetly back over Bennetts head for six. Great shot!
49.53Bennett to Midworth That’s a good throw in but Farman doesn’t gather it cleanly and Midworth scamper the third.
49.41Bennett to Fife Played away with a straight bat to mid off.
49.31Bennett to Midworth gently flicked around to the on, mid wicket fielding
49.21Bennett to Fife solid stroke to cover, Mccready misfields and the single as result
49.12Bennett to Fife nicely worked around to deep sq, great running between the stumps

We made 252-6 overall, a run rate of 5.04, so Borobia need 253 to win. Come on bowlers.

----------------------------------------------------------
The stats in our 1st innings showed that we took full toll of the field restrictions in the first 10 overs scoring at a breezy 6 runs per over. After Adu got out Wright came in and played a nice cameo while Binnion retreated into his shell a bit after the early fireworks. After 20 overs things looked good with 108 runs on the board and Binnion still in and well set. For the next 20 overs, the run-rate dried up while Binnion and Midworth went on hunger-strike. The game came alive again in Over 41 when Midworth backing-up too far at the non-strikers end lured Binnion into taking a risky single and then hastily retreated behind the crease to run-out his partner. Binnion just kept running back to the change rooms without a glance to his partner. Binnion got a well-deserved reception from the home crowd as the incoming batsman congratulated him on a fine innings as they passed. That run-out must have unsettled Midworth as he nearly ran himself out first ball of the next over. Donnelly fell LBW in the same over and 4 overs later Midworth ran Stroud out when Stroud got a late call of 'No' and was beaten by a direct hit from Cover as he tried to scramble home. To his credit, though, Midworth batted through the innings and found the boundary on several occasions to help post a competitive total. Midworth may need to see a sports psycologist after this match, though, to improve his concentration and morale.

At time of posting, after 14 overs we're ahead on run-rate comparison and have taken two extra wickets. We need to keep it very tight now during the middle stages.

End of Over 23: 106-3, runrate=4.61, reqrunrate=5.44 (252-6)

Midworth 5-1-17-0

Staley* 16 (22 balls)
Symon 35 (69 balls)
We need to get Symon out, he's been the rock of their innings so far.

End of over 31, the required rate has reached 6 though Midworth is nearing the end of his spell, so far 9 overs for 28 runs.

I was just about to quote that piece of OTT commentary myself. Who is this commentator? LOL.
Looks like we're cruising to a win with the required run-rate now at 6 an over.

I wouldn't say that, given what we did in the last 10 overs!

Midworth bowled his last over well to finish with 10-2-29-0, excellent all-round from him following his 60-odd earlier. The rate is now at 6.73 with 15 overs left. My gut feeling is that we need wickets, since they have 6 in hand.

We're lucky they aren't playing Whiteside against us today who hit 95 not out in the middle order from 57 balls in their last league match. They must want to throw this match. The current partnership is worth 42 and the RR is 6.83 after 38 overs.

Update: Borobia LegEnds have only hit one boundary from the last 22 balls.
