| and playing against the big teams is helping them.. They have played 35 Tests, of which they have lost 30. Of which 20 have been lost by an innings, and have 7 been lost by more than 7 wickets. Of the draws only one was against an established Test nation - The West Indies. The other draws and the win were against Zimbabwe. Is being thrashed almost every time they play helping develop them? Wouldn't it be better to play with sides where thay have an opportunity to develop their skills? The problem with Test Cricket is that you are either a Test nation or you arenot, there is not intermidiate step, and some of the ICC Teams are no better than club sides. Doesn't it make sense to have two tiers where the best ICC teams can earn the chance to play against the best Test nations - on merit? PS Zimabwe by the way after 35 Tests had lost just 17 games, and they had beaten Pakistan (twice) and India... Sri Lanka had lost 18 and won against Inidia and Pakistan Bangladesh have lost 30 and won against a very weak Zimbabwe. To me I don't see Test status is actually helping them Last edited by flanflinger : 14-01-2005 at 11:14 AM. |

| FF, this is one of those things which is not possible to measure objectively - it's only a matter of opinion. I personally think that in the long run - which is also not something which is measurable objectively, of course! - Bangladesh will benefit from facing the big guns. I'm not in favour of a two tier structure either. Bangladesh's wins will come in good time, and Zimbabwe's will return. Just to add to your stats, after 35 tests, New Zealand had no wins at all to their name. They had ten more games to wait before that happened. (That adds nothing to my position and takes nothing from yours, of course, but it does just make the point that Bangladesh were not the slowest to find a win after entering the test arena.)

My fear is this, if they do not start winning regularily how long will it be before the Bangladeshi public get fed up and lose intrest? They will only play Zimbabwe once every two or three years, that means they are going to have to see a lot of losses. I don't think there is a case for revoking Test status, instead I would give that status to Holland, Scotland, UAE, Kenya and Canada, then I would create a second Tier which would feed into the top Tier. This would make the games Bangladesh (and Zimbabwe) play more competitive and keep the people of Bangladesh happy. At the same time this will give them regular Cricket (let be honest if it wasn't for the Future tours programme, Bangladesh would not get an invite to England or Australia), it would also devleop the game in the other countries mentined. My view is that a Two Tier Cricket would develop a global game better than the system we have currently. Wherby Teams would achive the top level through Merit and not through Poltical engineering. |

| Off-topic I'm going off-topic here deliberately to make a point and I'll split these posts later to preserve the original discussion. This is a frank discussion involving some opposition supporters. My question is why are these negative points being made by opposition supporters in the Bangladesh forum? Is it to drive Bangladesh fans off this board? In my opinion, there has been little friendliness shown by opposition supporters in this thread. Let me remind everyone that the country forums are for the fans of that country who have indicated their allegiance via their My Team/s choices. The country forums are not neutral forums so please don't treat them as such. Opposition supporters are only welcome on the Bangladesh forum if they post in a friendly manner. If you can't adhere to that board policy then post only to your own forum or the neutral forums. If you oppose this policy then state your view here. Let me further add that I get quite annoyed having to move threads from the country forums to the neutral forums due to friendly discussions turning unfriendly by opposition supporters. I am prepared to ban opposition supporters from posting to any country forum in which they have displayed a clear bias against that country by constantly posting in an unfriendly manner. Please report such people to me and I will rid them from your forum so you can continue to enjoy your forum in a pleasant atmosphere. To reiterate: the board is structured with neutral forums and fan-based forums. When posting a threadstarter on a neutral forum the assumption is that you don't mind a frank discussion with opposition supporters. However, a threadstarter posted on your own country forum is primarily for discussion between fellow fans of your forum. Opposition supporters are welcome to participate as long as they don't spoil the enjoyment of the discussion between fans. If moderation is called for opposition supporters don't have a defence if a fan is annoyed by a comment. Not even, "but my point is entirely valid". Sorry, comments by opposition supporters should not spoil the enjoyment of fans on their own forum, no matter how valid. That's why neutral forums exist - for that type of frank discussion. Please let me know if I am not making myself clear because I have been saying this for months now.

| A little blow today when the Cricinfo announced that Zimbabwe and Bangladesh could be playing only home test series soon under an ICC law. Should be quashed. Bangla are on the rise. And there is more confidence than ever that Zims rebels will be back. |

| Like you, Paoli, I really hope they smack this idea firmly out of the ground.

| The biggest problem for Bangladesh is they play better cricket in Away games. The real reason behind this is that cricket boards in other countries feel a Bangladesh won't generate a lotta intrest. So they will be at a lose when it comes to money. Well this hasn't happened as of yet. Furthermore... if the lose does happen... it will still be an investment... as by playing big teams Bangladesh will improve and become more compatitive. And more compatitive on the scene will gentarate more money for them in the future. |
