A historic day

Congratulations to Bangladesh on winning their first test match today, beating Zimbabwe at Chittagong by 226 runs.

Don't think this proves anything except how poor Zimbabwe are without their over-looked or "retired" players.

The fact that this is called a Test match, IMO, actually does the game no benefit at all.

These two teams would struggle to give an Engish County Team or Australian State Team a game.

bangladesh almost beat pakistan in a test match, or something, its an improvement and a big day for them the only way they can improve it to keep playing with otehr minnows aswell as playing with the big teams.

I think if any side is going to make it on the test arena out of Bang and Zim then its going to be Bangladesh- They have just shown little signs of improving lately and they have some good up coming players in Mortaza, Ashraful and Emanul Haque jnr to add to the more experienced pros like Bashar, Rafique and Mashud. I can see them winning a few more tests in the next few years, whether thats enough to keep them in test cricket remains to be seen.

I agree, fully deserved win after giving Pakistan and the West Indies a solid run for their money in recent times. Good on them, there definately are signs of improvement.

Bangla will start giving the likes of Windies, NZ, Pakistan and co. a good run for their money. They'll go into the England tour believing, and although they'll come away disappointed, a series whitewash could be the tonic.

It looks unlikely Zimbo will ever get the major players back---ironically, this is the time when they've been embarrassed most without them.

I agree, which is why I have been pushing for a two tier system. (in current ICC Rankings order)

Tier A

Australia
England
India
Sri Lanka
Pakistan
South Africa
New Zealand
West Indies

Tier B

Zimbabwe
Bangladesh
Kenya
Scotland
Canada
UAE

At the end of every two years, a three match series between the bottom Tier A side and top Tier B side takes place. The winner gets promoted to/remains in Tier A, and the other team goes/stays in Tier B.

This would mean that teams like Bangladesh can work on their skills and will remove the dispiriting and moral sapping heavy defeats they so often suffer.

I would keep the ODI structure the same though.
