Oh right. Well iv onli been bowling off spin for around 3 years and im the same age as you. I tried the arm ball in my game yesterday and it got hit for a flat six. My team mates just tell me it was luck but i could see the batsmen had picked it. Got any way of helping me bowl a better arm ball?

For my arm ball i use exactly the same action and grip then i let it go but if you give your wrist a little spin like it would for an off spin ball it looks the same. However, people at teenage level are rarely going to be picking spin bowlers succesfully. Also, it's one arm ball that got hit for six, maybe it was short or just right in the slot - it's only one attempt, just keep trying it. Also what length games do you play cos clubs at this age play 20-20 games and they suck. At school im playing senior cricket with the 6th formers already, am in 5th year, and thats 35-40, much more suited to a spinner.

As someone that bowled off spin all the way through school (I switched to medium pace at uni cos we had a really good offie) the art is all about practice - I have never gone back to it because I do not get the chance to net and hence bowl lots of it without having it slapped around the ground.

I bowled an away swinging arm ball (for good bats that watched your hand) and a leg cutter (for the tail enders). The away swing was always quite hard for even a good batsmen to pick because the action would not change at all and only the final position of the fingers would give it away, but this can be disguised easily enough with practice. Which again is the key. Just get in the nets and bowl.

Also don't worry too much about 5 wicket hauls in 20 over cricket - if you can bowl 4 overs for less than 10 runs and pick up a couple you can bet your bottom dollar that you will have earned wickets for the fast glory boys at the other end - Cricket is a team game after all.

Yeh i see what your saying. But I need sum variation when I bowl because eventhough i had figues of 4 overs 2 maidens 4-7 yesterday in 20 overs I feel that on some very small grounds Im unprotected and that a single variation like the doosra will help me along way.

if your getting 4 for 7 you don't need variation. Variation is just another thing that can go wrong.
