| Yeah. Don't take a single to gully when it is to the best fielder in the opposition team. |

| Get your partner to hit the singles? That's what I do!

| Rule 1: if you go, go. No hesitation. Rule 2: clear calling. Know whose call it is. On the call of 'Yes' trust the call. Again, no hesitation. Of course, the calling needs to be sensible in order to foster trust. Rule 3: if it's close, dive. You can make up 2-3 yards with a committed and well-timed dive. You should never be run out by a yard and remain on your feet. Most of it is confidence and positive attitude. If both players go for a single, as long as the ball isn't hit firmly to a fielder you will make it. Fielders at club level often fumble or miss the stumps under pressure. Our opening partnership at school were superb at taking quick singles. They once took on a seemingly crazy run to square leg, but would have been in even if he hadn't fumbled it. Then, as the fielder briefly looked skywards in dismay, they took a second run! Think positive! Be positive! Create pressure.

| Gaps What I try to do is find the gaps. If you cant find any gaps I say go for it. When I need singels I think of a good player on the Pakistan cricket team like Younis Khan and how he would try to do to get the singels. That helps a lot feel like a good singal taker.

If you do get run out, it's either one of two reasons: 1) you were too slow, or 2) you were too slow. Simple really.

| If it's an in-out field, just chip it hard enough to clear the infield and land it short of the deep fielders. You can probably even take 2 runs of that.

| If the bowler consistenly bowls outside the off stump then leave and leave until you get one that you can crunch through the off-side away for four. Then the bowler will be forced to bowl a different line and if he gets to straight (on to your pads) then wait and wait and play it late of your pads (a little clip) through the on-side for a couple, its definetly the best way to annoy a bowler. Also if you want to singles throughout an over without waiting for that bad ball then rotating then what I suggest is that you develop that late cut, its a very handy stroke but make sure you perfect it before attempting it in a real match because if it goes wrong then you can just end up edging it behind or edging on to slip. However, try to play the late cut more to slower bowlers as its more easier.
