Cricket Investigation - help me pls!

Hi there, this is my first post here.
I am currently writing an investigation for school on the development of cricket equipment, specifically balls, helmets and pads.

I would just like to know, if its not to much trouble if anyone could give me some information on the materials/manufacture methods of them. Also any opinions would be nice;
-do you wear a helmet when playing? Why? for example.

So thanks for taking some time reading this, any info would be very helpful.
Thanks.

Welcome Jamiec.

Although I haven't got a great deal of time at the moment, I'll tell you that I do wear a helmet when batting. The main reason for this is because as a minor, it's required by UK law. It's also common sense really, given the uneven bounce you can get on club-standard pitches.

At a guess I'd say that helmets nowadays are manufactured in bulk by something like injection moulding or some other machine-operated process.

Thanks for the answer adam, eventhough its only his... lol.

Well i got a few more questions to pitch at you guys. A couple of things that id like some opinions on.

In the rules of cricket it states the size and weight of a ball must be ...blah blah

However it does not regulate the material of the ball.

-How would you feel about playing with a ball say made of plastic?
-If you were to play with a ball that wasnt cork based what material would you prefer to use?
