My prediction for the final is Sri Lanka to beat Pakistan. Both teams have strong batting depth but Sri Lanka have five wicket-takers who can take wickets on all pitch conditions. This should tip the scale in their favour.

Commentary and Scorecard

Please take a moment to look at the marvellous ball by ball commentary at www.freewebs.com/watcricsim then click on the link to the final.

I would very much like it if you could vote in our man of the match poll, at the top of the thread. You can also go to the WAT One Day Cup Summary thread and vote for man of the tournament and choose your WAT XI of the tournament! Thanks. Remember that if you are included in the poll then you are not allowed to vote.

Also, it will only take a couple of seconds for you to look at the scorecard. To view them properly please change your font to either Lucida Console or Courier New. Thanks

Well, incredible power hitting from both sides made for a veritable run-fest. The pitch was good and Sri Lanka, winning the toss, elected to bat first. Sri Lanka's prospects at 24/2 in the fourth over looked bleak with both openers gone including last match centurion arsalan660. However, the consistent pair of Mr Kiwi and Jayawardene forged a valuable partnership of 78 in 67 balls before leading series wicket-taker, Andy Mellon, got Mr Kiwi caught trying to hit a second six in the over. Fortunately, sanizan's arrival at the crease increased the momentum. After sanizan reached his maiden century both wickets fell in quick succession which slowed the momentum in the final few overs. Sri Lanka still managed to post a record target of 335 for Pakistan to chase down.

Despite the early wicket of out-of-form Salman Butt, the consistent trio of greg, Younis Khan, and Oliver put together solid partnerships and were in complete command of the match by the 25th over:
Code:
End of over 25
SRI LANKA 164/3
PAKISTAN 207/2
Sri Lanka's bowlers couldn't get the breakthroughs they needed to slow the charge and Pakistan ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Younis Khan fully deserves the Man of the Match award for a great display of power hitting that included 4 sixes and put Pakistan in the driving seat.

Exclamation

It was all down to runs really. An absolute run-fest.

Sri lankas bowling was poor. Every bowler went for more than six an over. Too many batsmen were allowed to settle and 4 of the 7 batsmen got 50+. Younis Khans fine century being the backbone of an outstanding run chase.

Sri lanka were beatan easily in the end.
