VB One Day Series - Week 4 Matches

Can Pakistan keep their winning streak going, and can India pull themselves back from their defeat last week?

Group A Matches

V

AUSTRALIA v INDIA @ MCG:

Australia (244) beat India (212) by 32 runs.

The Australians have beaten the Indians again to now lead Group A. After deciding to bat, a spirited 83 not out from Adam Gilchrist helped the Aussies on their way to a decent total of 244. The Indians looked ok with the bat, but a bit wobbly. The only really decent batting coming from the top order. The Indians have now lost 2 in a row, against the Australians in both. They have got to improve otherwise they could end up missing out on a semi final spot.

Man Of The Match: Brett Lee

NEW ZEALAND v WEST INDIES @ Auckland:

West Indies (332/4) beat New Zealand (331/8) by 4 wickets.

A great match which was vital in hopes of gaining a semi final place for both of these teams. After the West Indies had won the toss and decided to bowl, it started to look like the wrong decision as the New Zealand batsmen toiled the West Indians around the park. The pick of the innings a brilliant 72 from Captain! The West Indies never looked like they could chase such a huge total - but they did! With a whole 30 balls to spare! A brilliant 104 off 78 balls from rineet sealed the New Zealanders fate, losing another high scoring match.

Man Of The Match: rineet

Group B Matches

ENGLAND v SOUTH AFRICA @ Lord's:

South Africa (338/5) beat England (281) by 57 runs.

The English putting the South Africans into bat was the biggest mistake of the season so far. Through Ashwell Prince's amazing 129 off 108, South Africa managed to pile huge pressure on England by scoring a gigantic 338/5. The English never looked up to it and were bowled out, with the main attack being John and Andre Nel, 3-79 and 3-39 respectively. The only English resistance came from the top 3, all scoring 40+, with the openers both scoring 50's.

Man Of The Match: Ashwell Prince

V

PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA @ Lahore:

Pakistan (242/8) beat Sri Lanka (233) by 9 runs.

The Pakistanis continue their great unbeaten ODI form streching back to that very first match on Boxing Day against the English. Here, they were up against the WAT One Day Cup runners up again. Once again, the Pakistanis beat the Lankans, but only just. After a spirited Lankan bowling performance in which only Younis Khan (65) got past the 50 mark for Pakistan lead to doubts that the winning streak would continue. However, these were quickly washed away when the Pakistani bowlers came out. Uham, Pakistan's best bowler today, took 6-40 off of his 10 overs as the Sri Lankans collapsed just an agonising 10 runs short of a famous victory.

Man Of The Match: uham

Excellent win and great bowling, though I only took one wicket I am pleased with the economy rate in a high-scoring game!
