Pepsi Test Series Semi Final - England V West Indies

V

ENGLAND v WEST INDIES @ Cape Town:

- On a normal pitch in Cape Town, England made the most of being put into bat by scoring a challenging first innings of 489. This featured a great 159 from Kevin Pietersen and 87 from Maranello. However, through Pedro Collins, the West Indies fought back, he took 5-74.
- The West Indies reply was very similar in fashion. One century from English AL and another close one with Shivnarine Chanderpaul (97). They managed to get to 454 all out. The wickets were shared out equally between each of the 5 bowlers, with all 5 taking 2 wickets each! The best being rolfusmercartor with 2-74.
- England put themselves in a massively strong position in this semi-final. They compiled a large total of 322/3 declared. The main batsmen of the innings were Andrew Strauss (112) and Beny (125*), who compiled a 148 partnership. The West Indian bowlers toiled all day for nothing.
- West Indies, requiring 358 to win, never looked like they were going to reach the target, although a defiant 143 from Chris Gayle brought them closeish. They were dismissed for just 284 on the final day of play, with admin being the best bowler having taken 3-38. This victory places England in the final against all-conquering Pakistan!

England (489 & 322/3d) beat West Indies (454 & 284) by 73 runs.

Man Of The Match: Kevin Pietersen

Pepsi Test Series Final

Hello all and welcome to a sunny day in Colombo. Today is the Final of the Pepsi Test Series - it has been a great series and it is just about to draw to a close. The finalists are England and all conquering Pakistan, who are the champions of the WAT Cup and VB Series.

V

PAKISTAN v ENGLAND @ Colombo:

- England's batsmen failed and fell as they were bowled out for a mere total of 179. There were 4 ducks in the innings, they were flanflinger, Geriant Jones, Paoli69 & Ashley Giles. It was soon obvious that Pakistan had made the right decision to bowl first - once again Pete featured with 5-31. Now everything was up to the English bowlers.
- England's bowlers could not respond in the same fashion as Pakistan. The Pakistani batsmen racked up a big total of 450 all out, giving them a lead of 271! All of the players featured with knocks into double figures apart from greg (1) and Andy Mellon (0), however, no-one reached triple figures! The pick of the English bowlers was rolfusmercartor with 4-84.
- It was again England's turn to come into bat and they did not do too much better than the first innings. They were bowled out for just 235, still 36 runs behind Pakistan's first innings! This time, they put up more of a fight with half centuries from Beny and Kevin Pietersen. Pairs were awarded to Paoli69 and Ashley Giles for failing to score a run in the whole match! The bowlers once again set up the victory, with Shoaib Akhtar taking 5-77 to lead them to an innings victory - and the trophy!

Pakistan (450) beat England (179 & 235) by an innings and 36 runs.

Man Of The Match: Shoaib Akhtar.
