| Round One Hello all and welcome to the first round, here are the first two matches: V ![]() INDIA v AUSTRALIA @ Calcutta: - India set up a fairly decent score in the first of the 25-25 matches. They scored 112/4 through top order 20's, however, the Aussie bowlers also did well, preventing a bigger score from the Indians was good for them! - Australia in reply were not so good with the bat, at one point risking being bowled out, but the lower order brought them to victory by 3 wickets as they scored 114/7. The Indian bowlers did a much better job than the Aussies with Kumble taking 3-23. Australia (114/7) beat India (112/4) by 3 wickets. Man Of The Match: Occasional Fan V ![]() SRI LANKA v WEST INDIES @ Colombo: - After being sent in to bat, Sri Lanka made full use of their 25 overs scoring a big total of 194/2 - this featured 80 from Atapattu and 71* from Mr Kiwi. Dwayne Bravo, a West Indian bowler, was hit for an economy rate of 10.60 from his 5 overs! - In response the West Indies did equally as well, but not quite well enough! They racked up 181/2 in a pulsating and tense innings. In the end they only lost by 13 runs - but those were stopped by the bowlers, none of their economy rates passed 10. Sri Lanka (194/2) beat West Indies (181/2) by 13 runs. Man Of The Match: Marvan Atapattu |

| Round One Hello and welcome to the final two matches of round one. V ![]() PAKISTAN v ENGLAND @ Lahore:] - A good innings for both teams in retroscope, with Pakistan making 134/5, but England taking 5 wickets and reducing the Pakistan score to something that is chaseable - this was due to admin's 3-27. - England always looked like chasing down the target! It took them almost 10 overs less than Pakistan to reach the same score, and so they thoroughly deserve their place in the semi finals. This is the first competition that Pakistan have failed to win! England (135/3) beat Pakistan (134/5) by 7 wickets. Man Of The Match: admin V ![]() SOUTH AFRICA v NEW ZEALAND @ Cape Town: - South Africa batted very well for their 189/2, featuring 91* from AB de Villiers. They went at a runrate of 7.56 with Lemming also scoring well with 54 from 34 balls! This sets them up in a really strong position! - In reply, New Zealand did well to get within 32 of that big South African score, but, alas, could not topple the total! A slow 57 from Stephen Flemming set the tone for their innings, start off slowly but gain speed! However, this in the end did not work as they lost by 31 runs, scoring 153/4. South Africa (184/2) beat New Zealand (153/4) by 31 runs. Man Of The Match: AB De Villiers |

I think I have found the reason why Pakistan failed to win this one. We were missing some of our key players - including myself! I am left thoroughly confused by Bob Woolmer dropping me for this one; as are some of the other members of the all conquering Pakistan team. Why would a coach such as Woolmer want to break up a winning team? Hopefully this open criticism of his selection won't mean that I'll become a pariah in the manner of Saurav Ganguly. I just want answers! Last edited by Andy Mellon : 31-03-2006 at 06:27 AM. |

| Hurrah, well done to the bats for setting a good target and for my fellow bowlers (especially VF and John) for keepin the Kiwi's down. Andy - can't help reading that as "Fury Unleashes Melon..."....it'd be funny if somebody threw a melon at the Pakistani selectors! Last edited by Collyisamackem : 26-04-2006 at 08:56 AM. |
