Ern, you can probably guess where I am going to come down on this one. I am boycotting, pure and simple. Is that letting the boys down? Well, if so, tough. They've let me down pretty badly on this one. I'll be back with them in South Africa.
You asked about broadcast coverage, and, like most people, I have no hard information on this. There was a cricinfo report yesterday, however, which suggested that there will be none. Sky have definitely not bid for it, the BBC is a terrorist organisation and therefore is banned from Zimbabwe and, as far as I could gather from cricinfo, no-one else has bothered with it. My very strong view is that any broadcaster who goes to Zimbabwe and tries to cover a cricket match will not be true to his profession if he ignores all the other things which are allegedly going on - all of which, in my view, are far more newsworthy. In that I include intimidation of political opposition, the alleged fact that the populace is starving, repression of the press, both domestic and foreign and ... well, you know the song by now. |
