[quote= Bell and Pietersen ahead by a mile.[/QUOTE] For me Bell really has to prove it all again. He's not set the world alight over the past couple of seasons. Is he really that good? If so he'll score the runs this time out to prove it.

"English conditions are actually very good for honing batting skills: there's often a lot of sideways movement for the batsman to combat..." I have to take a bit of issue with this. Arent these actully, viewed another way, poor conditions to hone ones batting skills in relation to modern day test cricket. Not much chance to play the hook or the pull, or hit across the line. You can play yourself in, do all the right things, then just get a snorter, and all the good work is undone. Often, an undisciplined 60 ball innings outscores one from a guy who tries to play each ball by its merits... I think you should say the counties offer good conditions for AUSSIE batsmen to acclimatize to for when they have to play the Ashes here...

Glad to see you here linseed. I suppose it cant be that good practice otherwise we'd be alot better really. Also young starlets wouldnt decline after going through the county treadmill.

lets not forget although peng, carberry have crap averages, tresco and vaughn barely averaged 30 in county cricket yet they in form are two of the best in the world now. like rachel? i think said few players make it young in test cricket but tresco bar 2 droughts has not looked back since 24. so it's not all about county cricket as hick and ramps proved it did nothing for their international careers

Like I've said before, I don't know much about Carberry, but I have seen a lot of Peng, up until the end of last year I was having serious doubts if he would even make the grade at county level. Both Muchall and G Pratt well ahead of him. His performances on paper so far this year (only 3 innings so far) have looked decent, and I am hoping it could be a breakthrough season for him. Seems like a lot of young players start off well, get found out and then take a while to correct the problems. (some never do and just fade back into league cricket) I'm hoping that 2 or 3 of the young lads at Durham are coming through that iffy season or so now.
