Actually, I did waste 6 years having the **** taken out of me for being the only lad in Doncaster Comprehensive learning Latin for nothing, but if I admit that I'll probably have some kind of crisis.

Oh bum, I just did.......

I'll agree with that NE. Problem is, apart from the spell at the Oval, in the last five tests he has started to bowl like Brett Lee. He is better than that and someone should get a grip of him.

Interesting. I went to Stainforth Middle School for all of 5 months and all we learnt was how to make boats out of fairy liquid bottles and sail them down the canal. Of course, education was wasted in that part of the world because all anyone wanted to do was go down pit. Had to get away from there (especially as I'd come across the pennines)

If it makes you feel any better Goaty, I was the only one in school who likes Philosohpy or History... Mind you I never had to put up with any crap from other people. Certinly not a linguist though.

Why learn latin?

Rudolph playing well from the looks of it. Anybody put him in their dream team?

Right, Johnson has managed to get my furlined boots over my swollen ankles and is presently gunning the Bently in the drive, so i'm off to the pub for the second session. Plenty of amusing missives at Beny's expense please on my return. Toodle pip.

They are well behind the over rate (watch out for the wrath of the ICC Skipper - you're not Indian you know) so look forward to a late finish!

How did this happen?

From Cricinfo: lunch part way through an over and no wicket?

24.4 Hoggard to Dippenaar, no run, much better delivery as it is on a line and fuller lengtrh. Dippenaar has to be defensive And that brings up the lunch interval 24.3 Hoggard to Dippenaar, no run, shouldering arms as the ball rises slowly outside off 24.2 Hoggard to Rudolph, one run, off the feet and flicks the ball in the direction of mid-wicket 24.1 Hoggard to Rudolph, no run, still Dippenaar takes thebat away

I'm Doncaster born and bred, though much to my disgust my old man comes from the wet side of the hills. When I was at Hall Cross Comprehensive (which is its proper name...) the pits were all closing down, so what most people wanted to do was drink themselves to death. Unemployment was skyrocketing - in some communties only a minority of people had jobs - and it struck down the skilled as well as the unskilled, housing prices were the cheapest in Britain (including central Belfast) so no-one could get out, the town centre was a total no-go zone Friday and Saturday nights as whole villages of out of work miners came in on busses to drink thier giro's and beat the living ***** out of anyone with any hope for the future, a fair proportion of the people I was at school with couldn't see much point in education as thier life choices were limited to unemployment or working down the call centre, then the calls centres started to move to India............

Lets say I was keen to leave too. There's not much left of what I was born into.

They've been getting it wrong since they decided that Hoggy bowled the final ball of one of Freddie's overs !!

Yep - I see the card is a mess, with Freddie on 4.5 overs and Hoggie on 7.5 overs. At least the commentary and the card say the same thing, but how helpful is that when they are both wrong? Where's Bill Frindall these days?
