| A Good deal Time for a poll... The ECB says that transferiing rights to SKY is a good deal for English Cricket. While Channel 5 have committed themselves to proper length highlights at a good time, it still means that those without SKY are unable to see live Cricket. The big gain is £20m of extra cash, and Channel4 admitted they could not afford to pay as much as they did last time (which would have left a short-fall) so fincially it could be seen as a good deal. so was it a good deal - you decide.... | But then, as has been said in other contexts, they would say that, wouldn't they? What is beyond dispute is that cricket has a good deal more money to spend as a result of this deal than it would otherwise have had.

| In my opinion this is a terrible deal, not simply because all live cricket will be on subscription only tv, but mainly because they've given the highlights to a channel that not all of the counrty can receive, which means that anyone who can't afford Sky, and lives in an area which doesn't receive Channel 5, will not be able to watch any cricket after next summer! How they can truthfully and legitimately claim that it is a good deal is completely beyond me.

| A £40 digibox might help matters for you alison, and theres no charges per month. You'll get 5 then. But how much money are the ECB getting then ?

| Right now I don't care how much money the ECB get, I think it's possible to get digital where I live, but what if you live somewhere where you can't get Five or Digital? This is what really gets to me about this deal, they've given all live cricket to subscription-only tv, and given the highlights to a channel that I think 20% of the country (that's the figure I've heard) can't receive, How on earth do they expect anyone to become interested with that kind of coverage? I'm wondering whether I should bother following cricket after next summer if I'm not able to watch any of it? Granted that may just be immediate reaction, because I'm so upset about it, but how is anyone who doesn't already follow cricket going to get inetersetd after next summer? It's not played in school, unless you can afford to go to a private school, there won't be any live criket on terrestrial tv, and even the highlights will be on a channel that a substantial number of people can't get!

| I live somewhere you can't get 5 or freeview and I can't get sky either! Well, at least I can still get TMS! |
