I've heard that as well but I have no idea who started or where it came from.

You saw that at the start of the fourth day Vaughan gave him the ball. Also, before his injury he was talked about as a new ball bowler. I know he doesnt always open (or recently even play) for his county but I think he can become a formidable partner to GBH. With his fuller length, slower ball and ability to swing it conterposing the backofalenght steep bounce and fast yorker or the Durham man. Maybe not always but it would screw up the plans of the opposition if they didn't know whether they were getting Hoggy or Jones. Just something to consider.

At the beginning of the fourth day we had already bowled 23 overs. So he wasn't taking the new ball at that point.

Surely though, most if not all, fast bowlers would want to open the bowling. But the rumour I heard is the new ball was too slippy which is why he didnt like it.

This came from ages ago, it was back in his pre injury days. If you can remember he was very inaccurate and he found that the new ball exacerbated this. But it may be more of an option if his performance in this match is anything to go by.

I cant believe he was being questioned in the first innings, he bowled a lot better than Harmison, and his containing spell in tandem with Giles in the evening session was superb, it laid the groundwork for Hoggy's wickets late on.

And as for that slower ball to dismiss Tsolikele!!! Outstanding
Plus his batting is great to watch!! His celebrations were funny as well.

Boycott, he said he brought nothing to the England team and doesn't look like taking any wickets. He also said that there must be better players in County cricket

I don't get it, why is Boycott always so skeptical about everything?

He's a Yorkshireman, it's beaten into them from birth....

Still doesn't explain why Bob Willis is such a miserable git though - born in Sunderland but bought up in Surrey
