Strauss - Man in form of Legend in the making ?

Is the wunderkid Strauss merely enjoying great form (Vaughan a few years back) or is destined for glory on a permanent basis ?

At this rate RBLC I'd reckon he's going to make 15 test tons at least if not more, may be 20 if we can keep injury free for long enough.

Hard work and a very proffesional outlook seem to have done the trick....

Talent only gets your foot on the ladder, you need to have something more to reach the very top. Sounds like he has the right attitiude to make that step...

There is a really good interview with him in December's edition of the Wisden Cricketer

Hard to tell at the moment, RBLC. But it's fair to say that IF he does carry on like this, he will indeed become a legand of the game. All great players go through a bad patch - if he can work through that and regain the same form, then that will be a real mark of if greatness.

He does remind me so much of Graham Thorpe - seeing them batting together today really brought it home to me, although Thorpy, ever sensible in a difficult situation, was happy to play second fiddle. Strauss does seem a bit more positive than Thorpe, but I imagine he is feeling very confident right now.

I would imagine he has made one of the better starts to a test career by an England player. It would be intersting to see how he compared to the likes of Hobbs, Huton, May etc at this stage of their career's.

It really is a pleasure to watch him bat, that much is for sure!!!

He pulls a lot more than Thorpe. And to good effect too.

Strauss pull too much for me. He's got himself out pulling needlessly and its a weak link.

....but it's also one of his strengths!!!! Bit of a paradox that!!! He just needs to be a bit more selective.

It's actually his only real weak spot at the moment, that I can see!

He's a bit of compulsive puller actually, a/c to Nass anyway, he plays 'em of length, anything that is even marginally short, it gets the treatment, no matter what the line is, as you say, it has caused his un doing a few times but fetches him a lot of runs too...especially in this PE test match...but you're right, against some one like Australia he'll have to be a shade more careful, Pigeon, Dizzy, Casper don't give you many balls to pull through midwicket for four anyway...if they bowl short, they either hurt you or get you out...he'll have to be more careful, and work on that a bit.

Got to look at it 2 ways Richie, would he have got the runs he has got without pulling, if not, it is not a weak link.

We will know by September 2005, wheather Strauss is going to be a legend or not, IMHO.
